SmartKoop AI ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our consumer mobile app, website, optional customer accounts for online shops, our business portal (including online storefront builder, browser point of sale, and Food Surplus Intelligence tools), and marketplace experiences — including the business surplus marketplace and SmartKoop Marketplace (consumer peer-to-peer listings with escrow payments and local pickup).
1. Information we collect
Depending on how you use SmartKoop AI, we may collect:
- Account and profile data: email address, display name, and profile image when you sign in (for example with Google, Apple, or email links) on the consumer app, SmartKoop Marketplace, storefront customer account, or business portal.
- Consumer app usage: shopping lists, price comparisons, product searches, deal views, receipt images you choose to scan, and nutrition-related queries you submit.
- Alerts and preferences: price-watch settings and notification preferences where you enable them.
- Business and outlet data: company and store identifiers, staff roles, catalogue and pricing you operate through our tools, point-of-sale activity, inventory or batch data you connect for Food Surplus Intelligence, and content you publish for your online storefront.
- Orders and payments: order details for online storefront purchases and for SmartKoop Marketplace orders (including status, escrow state, pickup confirmation, and dispute flags). Payment processing is handled by our payment providers — we do not store full card numbers on our servers.
- SmartKoop Marketplace (peer-to-peer): listing titles, descriptions, photos, category and price, approximate pickup location or area you enter, in-app messages between buyer and seller, QR or in-flow pickup confirmations, reviews, and fraud-prevention signals. To pay out sellers we use Stripe Connect Express: identity, bank, and tax details you provide during seller onboarding are collected and processed by Stripe under its own notices, in addition to account identifiers we store to link your profile to payouts.
- Surplus marketplace (business): when a partner publishes a surplus offer, we process listing details needed to show the offer (for example product description, discount or floor price, pickup window, and store display name).
- Operational communications: push notifications, email, or in-app messages about your orders, account security, policy updates, and occasional service announcements (where permitted).
- Technical and analytics data: device or browser type, app version, diagnostics, security logs, and where enabled usage events to improve the product.
2. How we use your information
We use information to:
- Provide grocery price comparison, lists, deals, receipt-related flows, and AI-assisted nutrition tips.
- Run the business platform: hosted storefront, checkout, PoS, Food Surplus Intelligence, and integrations you enable.
- Operate SmartKoop Marketplace: showing listings near a chosen area, checkout and escrow, releasing payouts to sellers after successful pickup confirmation, handling refunds or disputes where our rules apply, and enforcing marketplace policies.
- Display published surplus listings on the business marketplace and link shoppers to partner storefronts where configured.
- Authenticate users, prevent abuse, troubleshoot issues, improve performance, and send service-related or (where you opt in) marketing or price alerts.
3. Legal bases and retention
Where the GDPR applies, we rely on performance of a contract, legitimate interests (for example security and product improvement), and consent where required (such as certain notifications). We retain data only as long as needed for these purposes, unless a longer period is required by law.
4. Data storage and security
We host data with Supabase (PostgreSQL) and protect data in transit using HTTPS. We do not sell your personal data. Access to business and marketplace data is limited to authorised staff and systems.
5. Third-party services
We use service providers including Supabase (authentication and database), Anthropic (Claude) and Moonshot AI (Kimi) where those features are enabled, supermarket and open data sources (for example Checkjebon) for comparison, and Stripe for SmartKoop Marketplace payments (Checkout, iDEAL where offered, escrow on the platform balance, Connect Express onboarding and payouts, webhooks, and refunds) and, where applicable, business subscriptions or storefront checkout. These providers have their own privacy notices.
6. Your rights
You may access or update profile information in the app or web account where available; request deletion of your consumer account and associated data by submitting a deletion request; object to or restrict certain processing where applicable under the GDPR; and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

7. Children
SmartKoop AI is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children without parental authority where required.
